Business Paper 1 — Marketing and People
Night Before Guide
WBS11 — The Evening Before (Unit 1: Marketing and People)
Provenance (2026-09-29). A short, final-hours-only supplement to
forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md(which already owns Blocks A–D of the 48 hours, including its own T-2-to-T-0 exam-morning pointer) andforge-spaced-repetition-schedule.md(which owns everything before that). This document does not repeat either — it answers only "what's worth a last look tonight, specifically," using the real findings already sourced insignal-frequency-and-boundaries.md§1,signal-examiner-intelligence.md, andresearch/veridian/WBS11-verified-facts.md§4. No new primary-source claim is made here. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Pearson Edexcel.
Worth a last look tonight
1.3.2 — demand, supply, PED, YED. The only spec sub-point confirmed hit in every one of the
seven series checked for it [signal-frequency-and-boundaries.md §1]. Ten minutes, no more:
re-derive the PED and YED formula both ways (given the two %-changes, and the rearranged form —
this rearranged direction has cost marks twice, June 2022 and October 2024
[forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md §2]), and re-state the single-shift-only rule on a
demand/supply diagram, confirmed as recently as January 2025.
The paper-wide traps — these apply no matter which topic actually comes up. Missing
counterbalance on Discuss/Assess/Evaluate is the single most-repeated finding across every one of
the 6 core series reviewed, without exception [forge-error-pattern-tracker.md §1, category 4].
Behind it: extract-copying instead of analysing it, a Define answer that just echoes the term
(stem-echo), and a calculation with no workings shown or a missing unit/%/currency sign
[forge-error-pattern-tracker.md §1, categories 1, 2, 6]. Read that one table, not the topic
list, one more time tonight.
One purely mechanical rule. A 2-mark Define answer gets nothing for adding an example — this
is reissued in five of the 16 examiner reports read, twice in the same report on two separate
occasions [signal-examiner-intelligence.md §6]. It costs nothing to fix and nothing to revise
for; just remember it walking in.
Showing workings is the one instruction with evidence it actually worked. January 2025 is the
single point across 16 reports where the examiner names a specific improvement rather than only
repeating the complaint — more candidates showed their workings that series
[signal-examiner-intelligence.md §7]. Do it by default; a correct method can score even with a
wrong final figure.
Do not start learning fresh tonight
Anything with confirmed zero sightings across everything this course checked has no real
past-paper shape to revise against tonight — sampling methods (0/19 series), Mayo and Herzberg by
name, paternalistic and laissez-faire leadership by name, distribution channel stages,
centralised/decentralised structure by name [signal-frequency-and-boundaries.md §1]. Trying to
build application fluency for these this late produces guessed confidence, not real preparation —
if any of these were never properly studied, a definitions-only glance is the honest ceiling, not
a new topic taught from scratch tonight.
Likewise: don't sit a fresh full timed paper tonight, and don't start a spec section that was
never covered during the course — both take longer to genuinely learn than the hours left allow,
and this paper's own pattern is that a topic's first real encounter under pressure already scores
worse even for students taught it in advance [WBS11-verified-facts.md §4, item 8].
What's deliberately not here
Exam-morning logistics (extract-reading, section order, pacing) already live in
forge-exam-technique-guide.md §5 and forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md §6 — not repeated.
No grade boundary and no likelihood percentage appears above; neither exists in any source checked
for this paper [signal-frequency-and-boundaries.md §2], and none is invented here.
