Business Paper 2 — Managing Business Activities
Night Before Guide
Provenance (checked 2026-09-29): built from research/veridian/WBS12-verified-facts.md (1,221
lines, read in full) and this same folder's signal-frequency-and-boundaries.md and
signal-finsto-pattern-delta.md (both read in full), cross-checked against forge-forty-eight- hour-checklist.md and forge-spaced-repetition-schedule.md (both read in full first, so this
document doesn't restate either — see "What this is, and isn't" below). No new primary-source
extraction was done for this pass; every claim below traces to one of those four files, stated at
the same grain they state it. No likelihood, grade boundary, or "every series without exception"
claim appears here beyond what those sources already checked series-by-series.
WBS12 — The Night Before
What this is, and isn't
A five-minute read for the evening before the exam — not another checklist.
forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md already owns the work for the 48 hours before this paper
(a timed section, self-test drills, the formula recall drill, the final-two-hours protocol). If
you haven't done that yet, do that first. This document says nothing that checklist's §3 doesn't
already cover in more depth — it exists only to compress the highest-value items into something
short enough to read once, calmly, and then stop. Read, don't drill.
The last look
- If Q3 (20 marks) turns out to be external influences (2.3.5), expect a business-cycle or
interest-rate/inflation shape. Both real 2025 series used this section for the essay —
business cycle in January 2025, inflation vs. interest rates in June 2025 — and it's the
most-documented section overall, with a named real question in 11 of the 18 series this
course's research has checked (
signal-frequency-and-boundaries.md§1). - Business cycle is not the product life cycle. A confirmed confusion two years apart —
January 2023 and January 2025 (
WBS12-verified-facts.md, 2.3.5 topic notes). - Quality management, four terms, one glance: control / assurance / circles / TQM. The single
most independently repeated narrow trap in this paper's record — three separate series
(October 2020, October 2021, June 2022) document candidates confusing these with each other
(
WBS12-verified-facts.md, 2.3.4 topic notes). - Analyse wants two distinct reasons, not one weighed against the other — there's no AO4 on Analyse, so ranking them spends effort the mark scheme doesn't reward. Discuss wants both sides, not a verdict — the level descriptor's top band asks for awareness of competing arguments, not a conclusion.
- A Calculate answer without its %, $, or £ sign is capped one mark below full — confirmed in every series with a Calculate question this course's research has reviewed, June 2019 through October 2024.
- Use the extract; don't just name-check it. Restating a line from the extract on its own is not application — the single most consistently documented failure mode across the whole record.
What not to open tonight
None of the above is new if you've worked through the curriculum lessons and FORGE — that's the
point of putting it here instead of somewhere longer. Don't open a spec section you haven't
studied at all, don't try to build Appendix 9's ratio list from scratch, and don't start a full
WBS11 re-read: forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md §4 explains why each one specifically doesn't
fit a compressed window, and that reasoning holds at least as strongly tonight as it does at
T-24. One genuine, checked negative, so it's stated rather than left implied: no drawn
supply/demand diagram question has been found in any WBS12 paper, mark scheme, or examiner report
this course's research has reviewed — there's nothing to rehearse visually tonight either.
Then stop. The front cover of both 2025 papers points you to the marks-in-brackets as a planning guide, not a warning — this paper's own record doesn't show running out of time as the risk.
