Night Before Guide
Provenance: written 2026-09-29. This is a routing-and-priority layer, not new primary-source research — every fact below already traces to research/veridian/WME01-verified-facts.md §2–§6 and the documents in this same folder that first established it: signal-frequency-and-boundaries.md §1 (topic frequency, the two fully mark-mapped series), forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md §2–§4 (the retrieval prompts and the "don't start fresh" list), and forge-battle-card.md §0/§4 (the formula-booklet fact and the ranked danger list). Read against all three before writing this: forge-battle-card.md already exists for "the last few minutes before you go in," and forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md already owns the full 48-hour schedule, including its own T-8-to-T-1 and T-1-to-T-0 evening/morning blocks. This document does not re-derive or re-argue any of that content. Its only job is the one gap those two leave: a single short page for the specific evening before, telling you which two or three things to glance at and which things to leave alone, in ten minutes, not sixty. What this is, and what it isn't
This is not a third revision schedule. forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md already owns the hours from T-48 to T-0, including the evening and the morning of; forge-battle-card.md already owns the five-minute skim for the exam-hall queue. This is the page in between: what to let your eyes fall on tonight, for ten minutes, before you stop for the night — nothing here should take longer than that to read.
Worth a last look tonight
- The momentum sign trap. If a velocity comes out negative and the question asks for speed, write the positive magnitude. This is the single most independently-confirmed trap in the whole archive — the same error, three named series (Jan 2020 Q1, Oct 2022 Q1, Jun 2024 Q1), and Jan 2025 reproduces it again on a kinematics question. Full self-test:
forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md§2 prompt 1. - Moments: pick the pivot that kills the unknown. "About to tilt about C" means the other support's reaction is zero, not C's — take moments about C itself. Confirmed across three named series (Jan 2023, Jun 2024, Oct 2023).
- If your paper's last question is a pulley system that turns into free motion once a particle lands or a string goes slack, budget for it properly. It was the paper's heaviest question in both fully mark-mapped recent series — 15/75 (Jan 2025), 17/75 (Jun 2025) — and Jan 2025's own examiner report calls it "by far the most demanding, with a modal mark of 0."
- The formula booklet gives M1 nothing beyond what you're expected to know already, except the cosine rule. If any suvat equation,
mv/mv − mu, or the bearing convention (East = sinθ, North = cosθ) isn't instant recall right now, that's the one thing worth another look before sleep, not a new topic.
Don't start learning this fresh tonight
Full reasoning for each of these already lives at forge-forty-eight-hour-checklist.md §4 — not repeated here, only listed:
- Newton's law of restitution and two-dimensional collisions (the spec states restitution "is not required").
- Projectile motion under gravity, centre-of-mass formulas, circular motion, gravitation — all M2/M3 content, not this paper's.
- The calculus minimum-distance-between-two-particles method, if you don't already have it solid — it's real (Jun 2024 Q7) but only single-series-confirmed and not yet a full worked lesson.
- A new calculator, or new calculator settings, you haven't already practised with.
Honesty note
Nothing above is a prediction that these specific items will appear again, and no likelihood or grade boundary is stated anywhere in this document — see signal-frequency-and-boundaries.md §2 for this paper's real, published boundary data if you want that context. Every item above is a count of series this course has actually read and can name, not an estimate of what's "due."
