48-Hour Protocol + Test-Day Battle Card

The taper, the logistics, and the one screen you carry into the room

3 min read

The two days before the test are won by sleep and logistics, not last-minute content — cramming new material now lowers your score. Your prep is banked; the job of the final 48 hours is to arrive rested, organised, and calm, then execute the system you've drilled.

Sources: sleep/consolidation literature; College Board test-day + ID rules; UWorld/PrepScholar taper guidance.

THE 48-HOUR PROTOCOL

Two days before (Thu, for a Sat test):

  • Light review of your Error Log's "greatest hits" only — no new content.
  • One short, timed set per section to stay warm (not a full test).
  • Logistics check: admission ticket printed/emailed; passport valid + name matches ticket; device charged + Bluebook installed/updated + exam setup done; charger/portable battery packed; test-centre location + travel time confirmed.
  • Normal day; sleep 8+ hrs.

Day before (Fri):

  • No new material. No full test. 20–30 min skim of the Battle Card + your personal careless checklist.
  • Pack everything tonight (ticket, passport, device, charger, watch (analog, silent), snack + water for the break, layers).
  • Light exercise, early night. Sleep is the highest-leverage thing you can do now — it's when learning consolidates.

Test morning:

  • Eat a real breakfast; arrive early; phone away/off per rules.
  • Read the Battle Card once. Then trust the system.

Why (mechanism): memory consolidates during sleep; an all-nighter encodes nothing and degrades working memory, attention, and careless-error control — exactly the faculties the test taxes. The taper protects the asset you've built. [A rested brain at 1450 prep beats an exhausted brain at 1550 prep.]

TEST-DAY BATTLE CARD (the one screen to carry in)

════════ MERIDIAN BATTLE CARD ════════
THE 5 RULES
1 MODULE 1 IS THE GATE — near-perfect M1 unlocks the hard M2 (the path to ~800, est.).
2 NEVER LEAVE A BLANK — no penalty; guess everything.
3 PROVE OR ELIMINATE — R&W: cite the text. Math: re-check the ask / re-graph.
 4 ANNOTATE THE ASK — variable · EXCEPT/LEAST · units · rounding.
5 TWO-PASS — answer quick ones; MARK & MOVE slow ones; mop up.
PACING R&W ~71s/Q · Math ~95s/Q
MATH Desmos: roots/vertex/intersections/circles. Grid-in: fraction safest, negatives OK, no mixed numbers.
R&W Predict before choices. Transitions: ADD/CAUSE/CONTRAST. Synthesis: obey the GOAL. Grammar: boundary test.
EMERGENCY (≤2 min left): guess every blank now.
MINDSET: hard early ≠ failing. Flag, move, breathe.

EMERGENCY PROTOCOL

With ≤2 minutes left in any module: stop solving and fill every blank with a guess — there is no penalty. Then, if time remains, return to your Marked questions. (Also on the Battle Card.)

DRILL / USAGE

  • Battle Card recall (≤2 min, self-marked): without looking, write the Five Rules from memory. PASS: all five named and accurate vs the card. FAIL: any missing/wrong → re-drill next day until clean.
  • Use the Battle Card as the cover sheet for every full practice test in Weeks 6–10 so it's automatic by test day.
  • The morning of: read it once, then put it away — it should already be in your hands, not on the page.

TRANSFER

Abstract rule: taper + logistics + a single trusted reference. Constant: sleep, no-new-content, the 5 rules. Changes: nothing — this is the same every sitting (Aug 22 and Oct 3).
