#Section A — Question 1 (30 marks)

Q1(a): Two components. Write. Stop. No examples, no extract, no chain. Q1(b): Formula → figures → answer with units. Show working. Stop. Q1(c): Two reasons. Each with embedded extract data + chain. Zero evaluation. Q1(d): Two sides with chains. Extract on both sides. No conclusion required. Q1(e): Two chains + competing argument + condition in conclusion. Stop at 13 minutes regardless.

#Section B — Question 2 (30 marks)

Identical structure to Q1. Identical time rules. Do not steal time from Q3 by over-running Q2(e). Q2(b) Explain: ONE reason with direction (not a definition) + TWO extract references + ONE chain. Q2(e): If running short — write the condition clause in the conclusion first, then fill backwards.

#Section C — Question 3 (20 marks)

28 minutes HARD CEILING. Never exceed this. If Q3 has two named factors — address both or you are capped at Level 2 regardless of quality. If running out of time: write the effective conclusion immediately. A partial P3 + conclusion always outscores a complete P3 without one.

#Internal Q3 Time Breakdown

Never skip P2. Evaluating your own argument before moving to P3 is what "bilateral development" means. It is worth 2–3 marks and takes 4 minutes.

#Full Paper Summary

Mark density is almost identical across all three sections. Q3 is NOT the highest-value use of your time — Q1 and Q2 combined are worth three times as much. Never sacrifice Q1(e) or Q2(e) to give Q3 more time.

#The Four Hardest Stops — Where Most Students Lose Marks

These are the four moments where stopping feels wrong but is always the right decision:

HARD STOP 1 — Q1(e) at 39 minutes total elapsed:
You will feel like your Assess answer is
unfinished. Stop anyway. Q2 has 30 marks.
Every minute spent on a complete Q1(e)
is a minute stolen from Q2(a)–Q2(e).

HARD STOP 2 — Q2(e) at 1:18 elapsed:
Same as Hard Stop 1. Q3 has 20 marks.
An incomplete Q2(e) that reaches Level 3
is better than a complete Q2(e) that
leaves Q3 with 15 minutes instead of 28.

HARD STOP 3 — Q3 at 1:56 elapsed:
4 minutes for final check. Use it.
Read only the conclusion of Q1(d),
Q1(e), Q2(d), Q2(e), and Q3.
Check each has a condition clause.
This is worth more than additional
body content on any of them.

HARD STOP 4 — Never exceed 2 minutes
on any Define question:
Two components. Full stop. Every
second beyond 90 seconds on a
Define question is a second that
cannot be spent on a Discuss or
Assess answer worth 4x the marks.

#Emergency Protocols — If You Fall Behind

BEHIND BY 2 MINUTES:
→ Drop one reason from the next Analyse
  question. One strong K→App→An beats
  two weak ones for the same marks.
→ Write the conclusion of the current
  Assess first, then fill the body.

BEHIND BY 5 MINUTES:
→ On the next Discuss question: write
  Side A with full chain, one sentence
  Side B, one sentence conclusion.
  This secures Level 2 (3–5 marks)
  rather than Level 1 (1–2 marks).
→ Bank the Define and Calculate marks
  first — they are the most reliable
  marks per minute on the paper.

BEHIND BY 10 MINUTES entering Q3:
→ Write Q3 as two paragraphs only:
  P1 (main argument, full chain) +
  Effective conclusion (all 5 elements).
→ A two-paragraph Q3 with an effective
  conclusion scores Level 3 (11–13).
→ A four-paragraph Q3 without a
  conclusion scores Level 2 (7–9).
→ The conclusion is worth more than
  P2, P3, and P4 combined if you
  are running out of time.

BEHIND BY 15 MINUTES entering Q3:
→ Write the effective conclusion first.
  All 5 elements. Extract evidence.
  Condition. Recommendation.
→ Then write as much of P1 as time
  allows.
→ A strong conclusion + partial P1
  can still reach Level 3 bottom (11).
→ No conclusion at all = Level 2
  ceiling regardless of body quality.
