PART 1: N15 — ERROR PATTERN TRACKER

WHAT THIS IS

Habits, not one-off slips, are what limit marks. A student who wrote an unconditional conclusion once may have been rushed. A student who writes it on five consecutive practice papers has a habit. This tracker identifies habits.

After every practice paper or timed section, record which errors occurred. After three sessions, the pattern becomes visible. The highest-frequency error is the highest-priority fix.

THE TRACKER — TALLY SHEET

For each practice session, put a tick (✓) in the relevant row each time the error occurred.

INTERPRETING YOUR TALLY

Any error appearing 3+ times across sessions = HABIT. Fix before next session.

Technique gaps fix in days — they require practice, not learning. Use the drill documents (N11, N12, N17).

Knowledge gaps fix in weeks — they require understanding new content. Use the topic master briefs (T3-10 to T3-18).

The highest-value technique habits to fix:

ErrorFix documentTime to fix
Unconditional conclusionN12 Judgement Drill — read Part A models1 session
P2 absentN17 P2 Bilateral Drill1 session

Wrong axis labelsN13 Diagram Drill — memorise once10 minutes

THE IMPROVEMENT PROTOCOL

After completing 3+ sessions:

  1. Count your highest-frequency error
  2. Go to the fix document
  3. Do 3 deliberate practice repetitions of the correct version
  4. On your next practice, specifically watch for that error
  5. After 3 sessions with zero recurrence: move to the next most frequent error

This protocol works because it targets one habit at a time with deliberate practice rather than general revision.

PART 2: N16 — TIMED MICRO-DRILLS PACK

WHAT THIS IS

Five-minute drills. One skill per drill. Exam conditions — timed, no notes.

The purpose of micro-drills is to build automatic responses to the highest-frequency exam situations: completing a Stage 4, embedding data, writing a conditional judgement. These should become muscle memory — the same way a musician practices scales before performing.

Protocol: Set a timer for 5 minutes. Write without pausing. Compare to model. Score against rubric. Record in N15 tracker.

DRILL SET A — STAGE 4 COMPLETIONS (5 minutes each)

For each chain-short below, complete to Stage 4 (named macroeconomic outcome). Target: 25 seconds per completion, 5 completions in 5 minutes.

A1: "Egypt's base rate rose from 21.25% to 27.25%, increasing borrowing costs and contracting consumer expenditure, shifting AD leftward." → Complete to Stage 4: _______________________________________________ Model: "...shifting AD leftward from AD₁ to AD₂, reducing Egypt's real output below its full employment level (Yfe), widening the negative output gap and generating downward pressure on demand-pull inflationary pressure as the positive output gap that fuelled price rises is compressed."

A2: "Japan's education investment raised workforce human capital, increasing output per worker and shifting LRAS rightward." → Stage 4: _______________________________________________ Model: "...shifting LRAS rightward from LRAS₁ to LRAS₂, raising Japan's full employment output (Yfe) above its current level and enabling non-inflationary GDP growth above the previous trend rate."

A3: "UK furlough scheme deployed £70bn, shifting AD rightward through the multiplier." → Stage 4: _______________________________________________ Model: "...raising UK real output from the −9.9% contraction toward full employment potential, reducing cyclical unemployment as preserved employment relationships were immediately reactivatable as demand recovered."

A4: "Germany's recession triggered automatic stabiliser activation as unemployment rose and tax revenues fell." → Stage 4: _______________________________________________ Model: "...widening Germany's fiscal deficit automatically through the four-channel mechanism (income tax, VAT, corporation tax, welfare), constraining the government's capacity for counter-cyclical investment at the moment when fiscal headroom was most needed."

A5: "Higher inflation above trading partner rates caused real exchange rate appreciation, raising export prices." → Stage 4: _______________________________________________ Model: "...causing export volumes to fall as price-elastic buyers switched to cheaper alternatives, worsening net exports (X−M) as a component of AD and deteriorating the UK's current account deficit beyond its structural 3–4% of GDP level."

DRILL SET B — DATA EMBEDDING (5 minutes each)

Take each standalone data sentence and rewrite it embedded inside a causal argument. Target: 90 seconds per embedding, 3 in 5 minutes.

B1 (standalone): "India's unemployment rose from 7.1% to 8.5%." → Embedded version: _______________________________________________ Model: "India's unemployment acceleration from 7.1% in January to 8.5% in June 2023 — a 1.4pp rise in six months suggesting cyclical deterioration — compressed disposable incomes for an additional 1.4% of the working-age population simultaneously, contracting consumer expenditure and generating a negative multiplier through successive rounds of income reduction..."

B2 (standalone): "South Korea's base rate rose 2.25pp from 1.25% to 3.5%." → Embedded: _______________________________________________ Model: "South Korea's 2.25pp tightening from 1.25% to 3.5% across 2022–2023 raised the hurdle rate on corporate investment projects above expected returns in rate-sensitive sectors, compressing capital expenditure (I) as a component of AD and simultaneously constraining the rate of LRAS shift..."

B3 (standalone): "World GDP doubled 2000–2023 while emissions rose 32%." → Embedded: _______________________________________________ Model: "The fact that world GDP doubled between 2000 and 2023 while greenhouse gas emissions rose only 32% — not the proportional 100% — demonstrates partial decoupling of growth from environmental damage, confirming that service-sector and technology-driven growth generates lower emissions per unit of output than manufacturing-led growth..."

DRILL SET C — CONDITIONAL JUDGEMENTS (5 minutes each)

Write all five elements of a conditional judgement for the given topic. Target: 5 minutes per judgement.

C1 — Monetary policy controlling inflation: Decision + Justification + Anchor + "Only if" + Counter-condition → _______________________________________________ Model: [See N12 Conditional Judgement Drill, Topic 3]

C2 — Supply-side policy for growth: All five elements → _______________________________________________ Model: [See N12 Conditional Judgement Drill, Topic 1]

C3 — Recession costs: All five elements → _______________________________________________ Model: [See N12 Conditional Judgement Drill, Topic 7]

DRILL SET D — DEFINE QUESTIONS (3 minutes each)

Write a 2/2 definition in two sentences. No notes. Target: 90 seconds per definition.

TermYour definitionCheck
RecessionTwo or more consecutive quarters of negative real GDP growth
DisinflationRate slowing, prices still rising
Unemployment (ILO)Actively seeking AND available to start
Real GDPTotal value adjusted for inflation
Current account deficitAll four components, payments exceed receipts

DRILL SET E — P2 BILATERAL DEVELOPMENT (5 minutes each)

Write a P2 paragraph that evaluates your own KAA Chain 1 BEFORE presenting the counter-argument. P2 reduces confidence in your own chain — it does not add to it.

E1 — Chain 1: "Monetary policy rate rises reduce demand-pull inflation by compressing consumer expenditure and investment..." → P2 (evaluates this claim, does NOT add to it): _______________________________________________ Model: "However, the borrowing-cost channel holds only if UK inflation was predominantly demand-pull in origin — if the Russia-Ukraine energy shock represents the primary CPI driver (cost-push SRAS shift), rate rises compress demand without addressing the supply-side source, risking stagflation where both inflation and unemployment rise simultaneously. The effectiveness of this mechanism was therefore conditional on the demand-pull share of the 11.1% CPI peak."

E2 — Chain 1: "Supply-side education investment raises human capital, shifting LRAS rightward and enabling non-inflationary GDP growth above trend..." → P2: _______________________________________________ Model: "However, this LRAS shift holds only if investment is sustained over the full 15–20 year horizon required for workforce composition to change — the electoral cycle creates a commitment problem where costs fall on current taxpayers while benefits accrue to future workers, meaning cross-party commitment is the binding institutional constraint rather than the economics of the mechanism itself."

E3 — Chain 1: "Fiscal stimulus raises G as a component of AD, generating a multiplier and reducing the negative output gap..." → P2: _______________________________________________ Model: "However, the fiscal multiplier mechanism holds only if monetary policy accommodates the fiscal expansion — if the deficit raises bond yields and crowds out private investment, the net AD effect is reduced. UK furlough was effective precisely because the Bank of England held rates at 0.1% simultaneously, allowing the £70bn injection to transmit without crowding."

ENHANCED SCORING RUBRIC — ALL DRILL SETS

Set A (Stage 4):

  • 2 points: Stage 4 present, macro outcome named, mechanism complete
  • 1 point: Stage 4 present but informal ("economy slows" rather than "real output falls below Yfe")
  • 0 points: Stage 3 stop ("AD falls"), no macro outcome

Set B (Embedding):

  • 2 points: data embedded mid-causal sentence, doing analytical work
  • 1 point: data adjacent to argument but not fully integrated
  • 0 points: data standalone ("South Korea's rate rose to 3.5%" as own sentence)

Set C (Conditional Judgement):

  • 5 points: all five elements present (decision, justification, anchor, "only if", counter-condition)
  • 3–4 points: four elements present (identify the missing element)
  • 0–2 points: missing condition = automatic cap, cannot score above 2

Set D (Define):

  • 2 points: core concept + genuine qualifier, no circular definition
  • 1 point: core concept only, qualifier absent or same as core
  • 0 points: circular definition, or informal core

Set E (P2 Bilateral):

  • 2 points: reduces confidence in Chain 1, mechanism stated, "only if" present
  • 1 point: reduces confidence but no explicit condition
  • 0 points: adds to Chain 1 (analysis not evaluation), or restates Chain 1

Session target: score ≥75% across all drills completed before next practice paper.

After each drill session:

Stage 4 drills: Score 1 point per correct Stage 4 completion (named macro outcome, no Stage 3 stop). Target 4/5 or better before moving on.

Embedding drills: Score using N10 self-assessment rubric (4 components, 1 point each). Target 3/4 or better per embedding.

Judgement drills: Score using five-element checklist (N12). Target all 5 elements present.

Define drills: Score 2/2 model or 1/2 (missing qualifier). Target 2/2 on every term.

Record in N15 tracker. Any drill scoring below target 3 sessions running = primary fix priority.
