#GRADE BOUNDARY ANALYSIS

Key observations from boundary data:

gap* is typically 6–7 marks. On a paper where you are already at A standard, the additional requirements for A* are:

• Perfect Section B (all five questions executed correctly)
• Q12e at Level 3 KAA and Level 3 eval (close to full 14)
• Section D at Level 4 KAA and Level 3 eval (17–18/20)

#THE THREE HIGHEST-LEVERAGE SECTIONS

Based on boundary data and mark availability, this is where the greatest mark gains are available:

1. Section B (20 marks) — highest certainty, lowest variance Every question is structured and predictable. Four sentences earns 4/4. Four questions at 4/4 = 16. Most students lose marks here through over-writing, wrong diagram axes, or inverted elasticity formulas. These are technique errors not knowledge gaps — fixable in one session.

2. Section C Q12e (14 marks) — highest single question value A student who earns 8/14 on Q12e vs 12/14 has left 4 marks behind on a single question. The diagram rule and Stage 4 rule together account for most of this gap. Drawing the diagram and naming a third party = +3–4 marks on this question alone.

3. Section D essay (20 marks) — highest ceiling P2 and "only if" together are worth approximately 3–4 marks (Level 3 KAA → Level 4, Level 2 eval → Level 3). A student who adds both to an otherwise good essay moves from 14/20 to 17–18/20.

#HOW TO USE THESE BOUNDARIES STRATEGICALLY

Grade boundaries are not just data — they are a decision tool. Here is how to use them.

STEP 1 — Locate your current baseline: After your first practice paper, mark it using the Self-Mark Checklist. Find your raw score. Map it to the boundary table above. This is your current grade.

STEP 2 — Identify where you are losing marks: Use the marks-available table above. If your Section B is below 14/20 consistently, that is a technique issue (see FORGE · The 4-Mark System). If your Q12e is below 9/14, that is a Stage 4 or diagram issue (see FORGE · The 14-Mark Masterclass). The boundary table tells you how far you need to go. The FORGE documents tell you how to get there.

STEP 3 — Calculate your marks-per-hour return: The three highest-leverage interventions by marks-per-study-hour:

STEP 4 — Set a target mark, not a target grade: Do not target "an A." Target "66 marks." The specific number forces you to calculate exactly which sections need which improvements. "A target" is vague. "I need 5 more marks in Section C and 2 more in Section D" is actionable.

STEP 5 — Track per-section progress, not total: If Section B stays at 14/20 across four practice papers, the issue is not knowledge — it is technique. Repeating knowledge revision will not fix a technique gap.

The column that matters: "why." Every one of these is a technique habit, not a knowledge gap. They do not require learning new economics. They require executing a known structure consistently under time pressure.
