HOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENT

This is not a revision guide — it is an execution plan. The 48 hours before the exam are not for learning new content. They are for activating what you already know, eliminating avoidable errors, and building exam-day habits. Every task has a specific time budget. Follow the schedule exactly.

The principle: In the 48 hours before an exam, the highest return activities are:

  1. Memorising specific figures (30 minutes → multiple AO2 marks)
  2. Reviewing your most common error types (15 minutes → prevents losing the same marks again)
  3. Practising the "only if" sentence for your top two predicted topics (10 minutes → prevents Level 2 eval cap)
  4. Reading the battle card (N7) once (5 minutes → activates all technique rules)

The lowest return activities are:

  • Reading new topic content you haven't studied before
  • Writing full practice essays (time better spent on targeted drills)
  • Re-reading lengthy guides cover to cover

48 HOURS BEFORE — EVENING (Day −2)

TASK 1 — Data bank activation (30 minutes)

Read R6v3 (Application Bank) — specifically the table of confirmed past-paper data. Do not read the whole document. Go directly to the figures table and read each row once. Then cover the document and write out from memory:

UK: base rate ___ → ___ (years: ___); CPI ___ (month/year);
    GDP ___ (2020); GDP ___ (2021); furlough £___bn

Egypt: base rate ___; pound depreciation ___%

South Korea: rate ___→___ (years: ___)

Japan: productivity ___% below USA (year: ___)

India: rate ___→___ ; unemployment ___→___% (months: ___)

Brazil: Gini ___; GDP growth ___% (year: ___)

World: GDP doubled ___-___; emissions +___%

Check your answers against R6v3. Re-read any you missed. Repeat once.

Time: 30 minutes. Non-negotiable. These figures are worth multiple AO2 marks across the paper.

TASK 2 — Define terms drill (20 minutes)

Open T3-26 (Definition Masterlist) or T3-36 (GDP Measurement Brief). Cover the definitions. Write 2-sentence definitions for these terms from memory:

Recession | Inflation | Disinflation | Deflation
Real GDP | GDP per capita | Unemployment (ILO)
Current account deficit | Aggregate demand | Multiplier
Supply-side policy | Monetary policy | Fiscal policy
Output gap | Hysteresis | NAIRU | Structural unemployment

Check against T3-26. Any wrong: rewrite the correct version once.

Time: 20 minutes. Q12a is 2 marks — memorised definitions are free marks.

TASK 3 — Top two predicted topics: write the "only if" (15 minutes)

From T3-2 (Probability Matrix) and T3-19 (Predicted Questions), identify your top two predicted Section D topics. For each, write from memory:

TOPIC 1: _______________
Chain 1 mechanism (3 words): _______________
Chain 1 data: country ___ figure ___ year ___
Chain 2 mechanism (3 words, different from Chain 1): _______________
Chain 2 data: different country/figure _______________
"Only if" condition (specific): _______________
Counter-condition: _______________

TOPIC 2: [same structure]

Check against the relevant topic master brief (T3-10 to T3-34). The condition bank is in every brief.

Time: 15 minutes. This alone prevents the Level 2 eval cap on your most likely question.

TASK 4 — Error pattern review (10 minutes)

Open N15 (Error Tracker). Look at your session tally from all practice papers. Find your top 3 recurring errors. For each:

ERROR 1: _______________
The specific one sentence that fixes it: _______________

ERROR 2: _______________
The specific one sentence that fixes it: _______________

ERROR 3: _______________
The specific one sentence that fixes it: _______________

Write these three sentences on a card. Read the card before sleeping.

Time: 10 minutes. Prevents the most expensive predictable errors.

Total Day −2 evening: 75 minutes.

24 HOURS BEFORE — MORNING (Day −1)

TASK 5 — Diagram drill (20 minutes)

Open N13 (Diagram Drill v3). Cover everything except the "REQUIRED ELEMENTS" boxes. Draw from memory:

□ AD/LRAS: AD shifts right (expansionary demand-side)
□ AD/SRAS: SRAS shifts left (cost-push inflation)
□ LRAS shift right (supply-side policy)
□ Negative output gap (recession / spare capacity)
□ Short-Run Phillips Curve (SRPC + LRPC at NAIRU)

Check the 60-second checklist (Part 7 of N13) after each diagram:

  • "Price level" on Y-axis? ✓
  • "Real output" on X-axis? ✓ (or "Inflation rate / Unemployment rate" for SRPC)
  • Dotted lines to BOTH axes at BOTH equilibria? ✓
  • Zero written text? ✓

Re-draw any diagram where a box was unchecked.

Time: 20 minutes. Diagram errors are pure technique losses — fully preventable.

TASK 6 — Six-mark and eight-mark rules (10 minutes)

Read F2 (6-Mark Analyse) Part 1 only: the hard stop rules. Read F3 (8-Mark Examine) Part 1 only: the AO4 structure.

Memorise these two rules:

6-MARK RULE: Zero evaluation. ZERO. Stop at Stage 4.
"However" on a 6-mark = zero marks + stolen time.

8-MARK RULE: Exactly TWO evaluation sentences after the chains.
             First: mechanism of limitation.
             Second: "only if [condition]."
             Stop. No third evaluation sentence.

Time: 10 minutes. These rules prevent specific mark losses on Q12c and Q12d every paper.

TASK 7 — Section D essay plan for top two topics (20 minutes)

For each of your top two topics, write a 6-line essay plan in 10 minutes:

TOPIC: _______________
Chain 1: K → App [figure] → An1 → An2 [Stage 4]
P2: "holds only if _______________"
Chain 2: K → App [different figure] → An1 → An2 [Stage 4]
P4: "holds only if _______________"
Judgement: [decision] + [justification] + "only if ___" + [counter]

Do not write the full essay — only the plan. The plan ensures you can recreate the structure under exam conditions.

Time: 20 minutes (10 per topic). The plan is faster and higher-value than writing a full essay at this stage.

Total Day −1 morning: 50 minutes.

24 HOURS BEFORE — AFTERNOON/EVENING (Day −1)

TASK 8 — Read the battle card (N7) once (5 minutes)

Read N7 (Battle Card) cover to cover once. This activates all technique rules simultaneously.

Do not annotate. Do not re-read. Read once, put it down.

Time: 5 minutes.

TASK 9 — Read your top two topic master briefs: KAA chains only (20 minutes)

Open the two topic master briefs for your predicted topics (e.g. T3-10 Supply-Side + T3-34 Exchange Rates). Read ONLY the "Two Deployable KAA Chains" sections. Do not re-read the whole brief.

Focus on: Stage 2 (the exact data sentence) and Stage 4 (the exact macro outcome named). These are the two sentences that most frequently separate Level 3 from Level 4.

Time: 20 minutes (10 per brief).

TASK 10 — Write one conditional judgement from memory (10 minutes)

For your top predicted topic, write a complete 5-element conditional judgement from memory. No notes.

Score yourself using N12 (Part E, Element scoring table):

  • Decision? ✓/✗
  • Justification? ✓/✗
  • Anchor data? ✓/✗
  • "Only if"? ✓/✗
  • Counter-condition? ✓/✗

If any element is absent: write that element again using the topic master brief. Sleep on the correct version.

Time: 10 minutes. The most important exam-prep action in the final 24 hours.

Total Day −1 afternoon/evening: 35 minutes.

EXAM MORNING (Day 0)

Do not study new content. The economics is locked in. New content learned on exam morning creates interference, not improvement.

TASK 11 — Read the battle card (N7) once more (5 minutes)

Read it on the way to the exam or in the exam hall before papers are distributed.

TASK 12 — Read your two essay plans (5 minutes)

The 6-line plans from Task 7. Read them once. Do not rewrite.

TASK 13 — Write your three error-fix sentences from memory (2 minutes)

The three sentences from Task 4. Write them on the exam desk scratch paper before the paper is opened. These are your technique anchors.

Total exam morning: 12 minutes.

WHAT NOT TO DO IN THE 48 HOURS

❌ Start a new topic you haven't studied — too late
❌ Read N1 (Chains) cover to cover — 1,383 lines in 48hrs is not revision
❌ Write a full practice essay — not high enough return at this stage
❌ Re-read examiner reports — content you already know
❌ Leave data bank revision for the morning — do it Day −2
❌ Skip the "only if" drill — this is the highest-return 15 minutes
❌ Study past midnight — sleep is worth more marks than any document
